Whose Line Is It Anyway? Those Phone Numbers on Construction Notices Don’t Always Get Answers

Cargo Container Home

Cargo container homes don’t have to look like they just got off the boat.

I enjoy exercising my curiosity. Just a few days ago I heard that there was a home being built on Peavy Road out of shipping containers. Sounds interesting, to say the least, so of course I had to investigate.

This area of East Dallas is no stranger to alternative structures. The Underground House is less than a brisk bike ride away, and the eco-friendly development on Oates Road by Solutions 4 Living is currently being sold.

So, when I heard that a home was going to be built at 422 Peavy Road where a bland, four-bedroom ranch once stood. I was intrigued. I have a few lines out to sources, but when I called the phone number on the site’s construction notice, I was surprised not only that the phone number for Herman Darden LLC went straight to voicemail, but it was more of a shock to hear a Spanish-language recording. We’ll see if anyone returns my call.

Those numbers are supposed to be lines out to construction companies to report violations, but what good are they if you can’t get through to them? I’ve called the city of Dallas to see what’s up with that, too.

Anyway, back to the construction rumors — this lot faces White Rock Lake, and if they build high enough, the owners could have an unobstructed view of the entire lake, from the southern tip over which you can see the skyline, all the way North to Mockingbird Lane. I can’t wait to see what they do.
