Hey, Valentine’s Day isn’t over yet. I like to stretch it out into the the WHOLE MONTH! I teased this house in last week’s round-up for CultureMap Dallas, but here is a little more on the story of a home I have wanted to bring to your attention for several months. The M Mansion (or Mmm 5540 North 40 Place) is in far north Dallas, and because my precious son got married there, I think it is the most romantic home in Dallas right now.
Well, I have always loved those white columns at Mt. Vernon. Sigh. My very first boyfriend lived in a home with white columns and a black and pink tiled powder bath in Barrington Hills, Illinois — I have wanted both ever since. As for him, not so much.
You’ve heard of the hairdressing chain Toni and Guy? This is the Guy Mascolo family who commissioned this mansion to be built way up in the North Dallas Forty in 2007. The North Dallas Forty is an enclave of estates off Frankford Road, in between Preston and the tollway, north side. Very wooded, secluded and private. The area has a casual gate and security code to get in, so you get a ranchy feel. Legend has it Flora and Guy Mascolo, founders of Toni & Guy salons, built the M Mansion as their dream house, pouring love into every nook and cranny, from the red Baccarat chandelier to the arches, columns, and many fireplaces and Juliet-type balconies.
The 15,000 square foot plus home was built by Ventura Custom Homes, fabulous home builders who also constructed a notorious spec home you may recall at 3415 Beverly Drive beginning in 2008 that took awhile to sell, since it was conceived and birthed during the housing bust. But sell it did with Erin Mathews on October 21, 2010 for $6,995,000, which was the lowered asking price. I think Ellen Terry started with it at $9,750,000. Those were the days when no one blinked at a $12 million listing…
Which is what they are asking now for the M Mansion: $12 million cool and easy.
