DogPlacement-NYC-575x397We really love our four-legged friends here at CandysDirt.com, so when we heard about this year’s Paws Cause 2013 fete we had to help out! We’re giving away a pair of tickets to “Paws Cause 2013 Goes Hollywoof,” a night of glitz, glamour and star power on Sunday, March 3rd at Sambuca in Uptown from 6-9 pm benefiting the SPCA of Texas’ Village Fair Spay/Neuter Clinic in South Dallas. Proceeds from Paws Cause allow the SPCA’s Village Fair Clinic to perform more than 11,000 low cost and free spay/neuter surgeries year round to our most needy furry friends.

So… we’re hosting a little contest here that brings beautiful canines, pussycats and real estate together under one roof. (The furballs!) When you’re staging a home, you can’t always get your pet out of the house in time for a showing, says Melissa Dittman-Tracy of Realtor Magazine. So what do you do? Why, you stage the pet!

That’s exactly what I did to my Yorkshire Terrier and Italian Greyhound. It was winter so I dressed them in matching light blue sweaters–a tad much, I realize, but I wanted them to look clean and well-groomed so buyers would know that my house was too! I kept the dogs in their new, fluffy beds in the laundry room behind a gate, with a framed sign posted near the entryway to let guests know they were there.

The sign had a picture (showing the dogs in matching handkerchiefs – again, wanting them to look clean and well-put together, but also showing the dogs as harmless, in case they barked whenever the door was opened.) The sign read: “Welcome to our home!” I included the dogs names to personalize it, a reminder that they won’t harm you as you look around since they’re behind a gate in the laundry room (where they’d like to stay, please), as well as a mention to please forgive any barking – “we get excited to show off our home!”

In fact, we recently heard of a rescued marmalade tabby cat who lounged on the couch with his front white paws crossed during an entire open house. It’s as if he was saying, “get comfortable and make yourself at home.” Well, one visitor did feel comfortable – the home sold after just five days on the market. The tabby has not asked for a portion of the listing agent’s percentage… yet.
