I’m in Park City, Utah, checking out some amazing second home bargains for SecondShelters.com and yes, testing the slopes. (Big snowfall tonight!) But if you are in Dallas this weekend, you can get out of town without ever paying the tolltag fee at DFW. Just check out the amazing Open House at 8545 Midway: a home on Midway that is really NOT on Midway. It is so beautiful I have the Mormon Tabernacle Choir singing about it. You know how Midway meanders down towards Lovers Lane in Bluffview and then becomes, well, Bluffview (a.k.a.the real Midway?) This Midway is a little off-shoot of Midway that becomes Capps and really should be called Little Midway Enclave. It’s a private, quiet lane and holds some amazing homes, including this one that is seriously orgasmic! If you think I’m full of it, just check out the July/August issue of Verandah Magazine where the home was featured. Quietly commanding, 8545 is more than 9000 square feet on a delicious 1.26 hilly acre lot, a modernist interpretation of a Spanish colonial home designed with meticulous, delicious attention to detail. You simply must see the kitchen with morning room and second catering kitchen. In fact, this home has inspired me to bring you a comprehensive weekly house story on CandysDirt.com that will go beyond the listing info and dirt. Whenever I find a knock-out house on the market, I’m going to spend a little more time on it, interview the designers and builders. It is my mantra that every home has a story, some just take longer to tell!
A Man Cave deep in the heart of Preston Hollow, more baths than days of the week, and SEVEN living areas and fireplaces. Only YU can afford it! Check out this recently completed manse at 5242 Park Lane by Bella Custom Homes: perfect example of lush Preston Hollow living. The gated estate, one of many new on this rue, offers over 10,000 square feet of living space with five bedrooms, seven full and three half baths, seven living areas, and a 4-car garage. The front entrance is no less than three sets of heavy iron and glass doors; no burglar will ever get through that! (Besides, this hood has private ARMED patrols.) The doors open into a grand two-story foyer elegantly appointed with imported limestone floors, intricate onyx inlay, and a floating staircase. (Check out the exquisite iron balustrade, such craftsmanship!) Opening from the foyer is the formal living area with soaring ceilings, tons of light, gorgeous wood floors, and one of seven massive masonry fireplaces. Custom millwork frames the entry to the formal dining room, which sports a coffered ceiling, dramatic crystal chandelier, and a soft-hued Venetian plaster wall treatment. The kitchen has an adjacent catering kitchen, of course, and serves as the control center of the home, though I do not expect whoever buys this house to be Betty Crocker. The kitchen opens to the cheerful breakfast room and (believe it or not) a cozy family room way nicer than the family quarters at the White House. Beyond the family room is the Man Cave, or “mens’ retreat”, which I call the horsepower of the house: full bar, wine-cellar, and wine-tasting room. The first level also holds the master suite complete with high ceilings, fireplace, and two sumptuous baths with large walk-in closets. Talk about separate potties, in this home your husband never has to see you naked!
You’ve heard this before: never buy your art to match the sofa. True, but if you are seeking some beautiful, reasonably-priced art to stage a listing or your own home, what if there is no sofa to NOT match? Hop on over to Gallery Interiors HUGE new art sale. Owner Mark Lafferty has gotten in a shipment of hundreds of paintings in all shapes, sizes and colors — so many he has had to float some pieces in an outside tent. Prices are ridiculously low; the artists continue to starve? But honestly, have you ever seen an obese artist? Gallery Interiors is located on the southwest corner of Preston and Royal in the Preston Royal Shopping Center.
