You remember Andrew Merrick: he built the most expensive spec home ever built in Dallas about the time this pup was built, 2005. That home, 3500 Beverly, sat on the market but Andrew and his investor, James Dondero, kept up the faith: sure enough, along came dream buyers Scott and Gina Ginsburg who had had a fire at their Park Lane manse, which was originally built by Jinger and Dick Heath. They snatched up 3500 and the house next door, tore it down, and now have themselves a veritable family compound there on Beverly. Meantime, cute Claire Dewar sold Ginsburg’s charred Park Lane pup not too long ago to a Guillermo Perales, one of the country’s top franchise restaurant operators and one of Golden Corral’s largest franchisees. He built a fortune and then some running 34 Golden Corral restaurants in six states, but then filed Chapter 11 for bankruptcy protection on four of the five limited liability companies he set up to run them back in 2009. It is amazing to see how much money can be made in the food biz. Guess that’s all fixed up now, as last I heard they were interviewing builders and getting ready to go vertical on Ginsburg’s old lot. But I digress.
Once he was the highest paid wide-receiver in the NFL, but now Terrell Owens is facing foreclosure on two Dallas condominiums less than three miles apart. His luxurious, 3559 square foot Azure condo with six parking garages sold at a short sale last November for about $1.4, if you will recall, or at least that’s where I called it. Looks like a couple named Monsour bought in in early December, and the unit, which T.O. once was asking $2.25 for, is now on the books at $1.425 million. (Dang I’m good!) According to data posted on RealtyTrac, the condos will go to foreclosure March 6 and are probably on Roddy’s. Owens is delinquent on a $360,000 loan serviced by JPMorgan Chase for a condo unit #307, only 881 square feet and on the books for $286,000. Guess that was for his bodyguard or Baby Mama. Honestly, if he owes more than it’s worth, he’s underwater and may be smart to walk. He actually owns TWO condominiums on Commerce Street, 3701 and 3715, but only 3701 will join the Azure at the foreclosure auction. Records show that Owens is delinquent on a $295,920 mortgage serviced by Deutsche Bank for that property. Ouch, maybe: at least that 2223 square foot unit is on the books at $355,000.
These are the darling folks from Fuji TV in Tokyo, Japan, who are in town for a week filming Dallas real estate. A few weeks ago I got an email from the LA-based production coordinator, Ayumi Kitahara, asking me to help round up Dallas homes for a special segment. Turns out they read my blog about Yu Darvish’s house hunting, and became fascinated with Texas real estate:
As I told you two weeks ago, the Mary Kay home is on the market and listed with precious Karen Luter of Allie Beth Allman. Fox 4 is doing a story on it this Wednesday, and I’ve even had calla about it from Japan. Of course, it is no longer owned by the late Mary Kay Ash and in fact, the blonde cosmetics tycoon had moved out of the house during her later years and back into her home at 7246 Lupton, pictured below. Meantime, guess who jazzed up the interiors on Douglas? None other than designer-with-a-real-estate-license Mark Godson, who has staged the Palomar Residences as well as a new listing with Debbie Ingram you shall soon be drooling over. I still cannot believe the listing price is only $3.3 for this pink palace. Swear it should be the home of the Mayor of Dallas — as long as he pays the mortage! By the way: I am having lunch with the descendants of the home’s architect, Fred Wynn, tomorrow. They tell me the house was built as a spec house. Get ready for more delicious details on Valentines Day!

Though you won’t find a putting green, you will find everything else your heart could possibly want or even dream of having in this 8696 square foot Brookside Estates honey at 7048 Turtle Creek Lane. Where do I even begin? Pour a glass of wine and flip through this link: I cannot find a favorite room. I just love them all, from the formals to the media room, wine cellar, great master suite with his and her baths —-forget separate potties, hell, every man and women who live together needs to have separate potties! There is the loaded to the hilt kitchen, smooth and clean finish out and fixtures that will make you swoon. I LOVE this: underground parking for 4 cars (so you don’t swallow so much of the lot, though at almost half an acre nothing to sneeze at), geothermal HVAC, HUGE bedrooms, and a fancy-pants A/C system so complex I guarantee I can break it by looking at it! Outside-to-die-for room, too, with grilling paraphenelia and a living room feel. And get this: half the furnishings are included in the sales price. The home was custom built in 2007 on almost half an acre of primo HP dirt. So I am not shocked by the asking price, which is almost DCAD value.

Hopefully, he’s not going anywhere, maybe just closer to Cowboys Stadium? Jason Garrett just put his gorgeous Highland Park home on the market late Friday with none other than broker to the rich and famous Allie Beth Allman listing it. Asking: $1,950,000. The Ivy Leaguer (Princeton, Columbia) just got named head Cowboys coach January 6, the 8th head hocho in Cowboys history.
