Tuesday Two Hundred My Foot: Live in Southlake for Way, Way Less Than the Pro Boys

Share News:

I wanted to see if we common folks can live in the mid-cities area, like Southlake, just like all these pro ball player and coaches. I love Vaquero and Westwyck Hills — especially the way they spell the name –but you have to drop at least a couple million. It’s Tuesday $200, our “value real estate” day. How about a home for just $133,000? Are you laughing? Joke’s on you because Briggs-Freeman Sotheby’s has a listing in it’s Southlake office that is so great, it’s already pending.

Enter 2500 Satinwood Court, Arlington. I’m talking a quarter of an acre, 1620 square feet, three bedrooms and two baths. Recall that LaMarcus Aldridge only has two baths in that Lake Oswego, Oregon house. I guess hippies don’t take baths! So here we have a two car garage, a fireplace in the master suite, hell there really is a master suite. Covered patio just itching for an outside kitchen and barbecue pit, new roof and A/C as this house was built in 1985. Tarrant county taxes, and you get to live on a cul de sac. I mean, this house is so reasonable you could just charge it for the miles. But like I said, someone has already tucked it in their shopping cart — I came in just too late! The listing agents have a whole lot more in this price range — check it out!

I’m sorry, but how in the heck are you touting an Arlington listing as being “in Southlake”? Those two suburbs don’t even border each other and obviously one has a significantly better school system than the other….

Yes, good point D Girl. The broker is a Southlake broker, which threw me, and the price is oh so right. Everything between Dallas and Fort Worth is like the wild wild west! But still, $133K for a cute house on a cul de sac is not too shabby. And hey, Kwame Kilpatrick, the embattled former mayor of Detroit moved from Southlake to Grand Prairie: https://candysdirt.com/2012/06/05/kwame-kilpatrick-tough-texas-big/ Can't we all just be neighbors?

$133k is probably around the average price for a single family home in Arlington, so it’s not exactly a steal/deal. Plus, the majority of AISD schools stink. It takes $300-500k++ to move into the central suburbs with great schools (Coppell, Colleyville, Southlake).

Kwame Kilpatrick moving to Southlake has nothing to do with this house.

You are spot on — about the schools. So do you think we should just ignore Arlington?

Enjoy your blog very much. However, if it's Dallas dirt – then keep it Dallas, County. Otherwise, do us all a favor and learn the NTX suburbs when reporting other properties. The point raised about designated schools is very important. I think readers enjoy highlights about ALL homes and architecture throughout North Texas, so please continue. Just do the research and don't be insulting about the wild, wild West, or the far, far North. Dallas is the 4th largest CSMA in the nation, so it's time to step it up a notch. We are not Us Vs Them, or Dallas Vs FTW. We are one huge metro area. Take on the responsiblity for presenting our metro region accurately. Your readers are from all economic backgrounds and geo-locations. We enjoy your quirky stories and highlights. Just keep it real.

Tyler, thanks! You will be happy to know I am recruiting community reporters in these areas. But the blog is CANDYSDIRT, which is exactly why I moved away from the DallasDirt name. I am so in step with you: Dallas is HUGE, and it's not all about downtown, uptown, Highland Park of Preston Hollow. We want more on Vallet View. We have a piece coming up about a Highland Park family moving to Kessler. We want to go way north of LBJ. We want to go to McKinney. We are looking at Arlington and we are looking at Fort Worth, too. So keep us posted with what you think and want and need from us! My aim is to offer what no one else in town gives you: local real estate news!
