Castle Keepers’ Trauma in Murphy: Former Tenant Allegedly Pooped on Property

We told you about the Castle Keeper drama up in Murphy (Collin County), where a homeowner named Aji Philip hired Castle Keepers and CK put tenants in her home, this home, to tend it. They were brothers, the Burgess brothers, 27 year old Drew, and 23-year old Shaun. We were told by Kenny Raupple, owner of Castle Keepers, that one of the brothers Burgess sort of pulled a fast one on him by changing the contract he signed to give themselves more time in the casa before vacating, and brought in their dad, Nathan, and a dog. The whole ordeal was very messy for the homeowner. And it seems like the dad, Nathan, is more of a child than his sons. Last week, July 11, we were told the police, a locksmith and a couple of “bouncers” headed over to 720 Paint Creek Drive in Murphy to legally evict Nathan Burgess and his pit bull. Bud Gillett over at Channel 11 tells us he didn’t exactly want to go peacefully. In fact, Gillett said the family nut patriarch, Nathan Burgess, reportedly left his possessions in the yard and moved into his car. Burgess was cited for (literally) illegal dumping, then finally arrested for disorderly conduct. Philip is still ticked off, can you blame her?

“He (Burgess) threw glass all over my property, he defecated on my property, he brought his family, they brought their friends in. All trespassing,” she said.

I’m confused: I thought the sons were the original tenants. Now we learn that one son, Drew Burgess, the one supposedly hired to stage the house with furniture, who wants to go to law school so he got all tricky with the contract, gathered his daughter and belongings and left.

This kid has a daughter? Pardon me for being old fashioned but, where is Mama? And my my, grandpa is a pillar of a role model.

This is not the best PR for Castle Keepers, which is really a great company. So great they are, in fact, repairing any damage at Philips’ and getting her new tenants — if she wants them!

To Becky and the rest of you guys trying to slander a family that you do not know anything about, learn a lesson from Eubanks, Karen right above. YOu need to be sure of things before you just spout off at the lips. I am the dad, and my kids did an excellent job with the 3 homes they helped sell within the 10 months prior to this home. What went wrong? Absolutely, the contract was amended, due to it’s one sided, illegal terms; totally unconscionable, therefore null and void. Consideration was the ability to look at other properties in the area, but rent, "participation fee" was still due. Hours of operation, 8am to 9pm, 7 days a week. Deposit, oh that was called, "good faith performance bond", not a lease, but "service contract", however, in court, the service contract reverted back to a Landlord/tenant relationship and contract to lease, and GFPB to a deposit. Karen Eubanks just said this great model is used all over the country, so I would suppose once this all goes public, Karen and Kenny and the others using this, "great model" may find themselves in some sticky places trying to explain the rate race to the public and civil judges, as well as, Fair Housing!
Mrs Eubanks might do well to start saving up for a rainy day to pay for her legal fees from al the unhappy, "short term guests" that are going to be angry about the deception involved in this business, if her model serves to be the same as Castle Keepers. Even though the kids, my kids, helped to sell just over 1 million dollars in homes in less than 10 months, and would have helped to sell the other home as well, Castle Keepers decided that intimidation, slander, and criminal actions against the Burgess Family would be a better resolve than by legal means available to him. Threats are not the way to influence people to do things that would benefit your position, especially illegal ones.

Nathan Burgess says:

Candy, looks like you decided to run the slanderous route with this information! Thought more highly of you than share the "poop" story. And I heard you will not take, the other side of the story" comments! Hope you change?

Karen Eubank says:

Becky, they have never had anyone alter a contract in 21 years. They are a reputable company and this sort of business model is used all over North America with great success. The story has a very good lesson. Regardless of what business you are in, check your contract. So many of us use electronic means to sign contracts today and those can be altered as well.

A pair of 20-something year old brothers should have been a big red flag. One of life’s lessons learned the hard way. Good for CK for making things right.

Becky says:

I don’t know about anyone else, but I would be very reluctant to call Castle Keepers in the future. They didn’t pay enough attention to their own contract and they didn’t do enough checking on the people they hired.

Joanna England says:

This whole situation just boggles my mind. When you think you’ve heard it all …

Candy Evans says:

Good Lord this makes me leery of letting people in my home! Just don’t understand that mentality — dear Lord they were not paying rent why roast? (Did the house smell like New York City?)

I have never had a situation this bad with a home keeper, but recently in a 800k listing in west Plano, I had a (ahem) tenant that would never turn on the air conditioning or lights. I guess saving on high dollar rent was not enough – they did not want to spend on utilities either. It was their job to make the home look and feel better to give a better chance of landing a contract. Every time I went over for a showing, I would open the door and it was like a blast furnace! Numerous complaints to the company (Not Castle Keepers) and the resolution was "There is nothing we can do". Luckily we rented to real tenants.

Cheryl says:

Good gravy, can you say DYSFUNCTIONAL? Seems to me mental problems run ramped in that family. Feel sorry for the young girl.
